Quick Update

So, we had to stop our writing groups for not going through the appropriate venues. Figures, right? We've gone back to writing instruction within our homegroups, but it's so difficult.

I can't even discuss what a bad day today was, but there was ONE highlight: First grade is getting a 5th teacher! We're not sure which students will be placed into that classroom, but most likely it will be 11 or 12 of the lowest students - those who should really still be in Kindergarten but were promoted to 1st grade for a veriety of reasons. While it seems like it would be a separate special education type situation, the needs of these students coupled with the issues that we have to deal with in the classroom are making it difficult to make sure they aren't falling through the cracks. I feel like a sell out, but I am beginning to see how it's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day trials and tribulations (more on that later, because this is a situation I'm struggling with). I realized tonight that I'm not really sure about the ability levels and current performance of one student in particular. She's the quiet kid that will fall through the cracks if I don't catch her before its too late.

Either way, it means that our classes will be down to 16 kids, which will hopefully be a good change for our room. It'll be sad to see those three students leave, but it will definitely be a good situation for them; they will be able to have intense instruction exactly where they need it. We're thinking this will be in effect starting Monday. I'll let you know!
