We made a birthday picture graph on Friday. I don't know yet when my students' birthdays are and we are learning about picture graphs - perfect! It turns out that I have 2 sets of students who share birthdays. Two students have a birthday next Thursday (they'll both be 6!) and two students had a birthday on July 26th. Isn't that crazy?
Celebrating birthdays is one thing I'm going to do a better job of this year. The last two years it was hit or miss. Sometimes I remembered, sometimes I didn't. But now I'm at a school that allows birthday treats and celebrations, so I think it'll be easier to remember. Toward the end of the year, I'm going to plan time to celebrate students whose birthdays are in the summer. My nieces did that last year in first grade and they were excited about their school "un-birthday". I hope birthdays can be fun in my classroom this year. They should be. It's first grade!
