One of the reasons I wanted to continue this blog was to compare my experiences between these two different environments. And while I know I haven't done a good job of posting in general, I've done an even worse job of getting at my original intention. It's so easy to fall into the trap of just posting about the same old things. I'm going to get better about that...starting now.
One of the great things about working at a charter school is that there is money to spend on things like...field trips. In my old public school, we were allowed one field trip which the system scheduled for us. We have planned one field trip each month for this school year, each to a different place that focuses on something we'll be studying at that time. On Wednesday, we went to the Pumpkin Patch and had a great time (minus the two times I lost a student and the countless times one of my kids tried to walk away).
But, just like the public system, we have our issues. We were supposed to go to the Pumpkin Patch last week, but we were rained out. They called us to reschedule for Tuesday and we notified our school so that the buses could be rescheduled. Well, Monday at noon the buses hadn't been scheduled and we weren't sure we were going. Everything worked out in the end but we certainly aren't perfect just because we're a charter school.
